Who Am I?

"Who am I?" I was asked today, "Are you called Kathy, Kat, or Kate?" I couldn't answer, ...I was stumped! Who am I ....I heard myself say.

I am called many things, But do names define the being? I'm His wife, I said, "I Do, For Better or Worse, Till Death Do Us Part, Soulmates throughout Eternity, But is that Me?

I'm their Mom, gave them life, Protected, cared for, scolded at times, Gave them wings, taught them to fly, Til he sought a wife.

I'm the product of my parents love, A passion brighter than the sun. But a fire that blazes as hot as theirs, Quickly burns itself out again. They brought me up as best they could, Teaching me right from wrong, To be kind and loving, as all people should.

I am a product of a society gone mad, A teen in a time of sadness and war, Of young fighting old, protest songs. Of untrust, combatants who fear what they don't understand.

I am a product of my experiences, My memories and loses, Dreams gone bad. Of my regrets over the past, And the happiness I had.

I have been to the abyss, Void of light or hope, filled with dispair. And heard only my voice crying in the night. It has made me stronger I have no doubt. But at what price.

I have felt true joy and love in my life, The birth of my children, The love in your eyes. The warmth in my heart when held in your arms.

Who Am I? I still cannot say... I once knew me...I had glorious wings, That would spread their feathers across the azure sky, And dreams that once lit me up inside.
