Try taking it to Image Magick.
Just paste the URL, then click view.

When you are on the page, to see your image, go down, to where you can make paint choices.
Click MATTE
Click FLOODFILL
Erase the 0 and enter 8888
Now, go up, click the image, and point the arrow at the background, and click.

The next page should have your image with a transparent background.
Just output it, and you're done.

Hope this helps.

Just a note here.

I had some major problems trying to transparent a gif. Short version of the story:

When Tripod and others said we could only have GIFS to remote link, so many people made the mistake of just RENAMING their JPG's ..GIFs.

Those images are realy JPGs, sometimes with special features, (such as drop shadows and have to have backgrounds) and you cannot remove the background from them without destroying the image.

You are completely right about that.

But I have found that if I take it to Image Magick and output it as a "real" gif, sometimes, I can work with it then.
Not all of the time, but sometimes.

I wondered why there were so many gifs, all of a sudden, that would come up, as invalid, when taken to gifworks.
