I have discovered that if you composite an animated gif onto a still and it's wise to use an animation that has only 2 or 3 frames to it.

By reducing the colors and replacing colors first on the still part of the image and then replacing with the same colors in the animation that you will notice some of the pixels begin to respond to the animated pixels of the same color in the animation. So you keep on doing that either with the same color replacement or another color.

Again first replace the color on the still portion and then replace with the same color in the animated part of the graphic. Keep working it until you get the desired effect.

I started out with this:

Beginning image

Took it to gifworks and reduced colors and turned the background black. Then took to Image Magick composited this that I made yesterday.

Blue and Pink Sparkles

Began reducing colors and replacing colors.

Then a little later I composited this as well.

Gold Sparkle

Then more replacing colors. Picking up pixels into the animated pixels.

Then took back to gifworks and optimised some more and replaced more colors.

Came up with this .....

BTW. By remembering when you output to change the extension from jpg or jpeg to =.gif =

If you don't the animation will freeze and if you made part of the image transparent it will default to grey. YUK huh? So don't forget this important step!
