Trump has brought the ugly underbelly of America out into the open - the racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, white nationalism, white supremacy, lack of civility, lack of education, blatant selfishness and self-righteousness, lack of compassion for even one‘s own fellow Americans, are all being openly exhibited or silently held attitudes by Trump supporters and his base.

Trump will go away hopefully in 2020 - but his emboldened base won’t.
They now know that their nationalist protectionist supremacist ideas do resonate with significant numbers of Americans and therefore, they will keep trying to gain the upper hand.
The next President liberal or Conservative will need to contend with them
