Ingredients
1/2 C butter
8 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate
1/2 C sugar
3 eggs
2 T vanilla
2 C sifted flour
1/4 C unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
Confectioner's sugar
Melt butter & chocolate in a large saucepan over low heat. Add sugar & cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat & let stand until no longer hot, at least 15 minutes.
Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla.
In a bowl, stir together flour, cocoa powder, salt & baking powder. Pour flour mixture into melted chocolate & stir until well blended. Dough will be very thick. Refrigerate until stiff (30 -60 mins).
Form into 1 inch balls. Roll each ball in confectioners' sugar. Place on un-greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 285 degrees until the tops start to crack, about 15 minutes. Cool on wire racks, then store in an airtight container.
