 The easiest and quickest way to have flowers is to buy annual bedding plants and set them out directly into your garden.
Set plants slightly deeper than they were in their original containers, firming soil to eliminate air pockets.
"Deadheading" means to remove faded flowers. This will insure that the plants continue to bloom all season.
For bushier, fuller plants with more blooms, pinch back the growing tips often.
Perennials will show decreased bloom after a few years if not divided. Dig up perennials every 2-4 years and divide into 3 or 4 smaller clumps. Spring and summer blooming bulbs should be divided in the fall, fall blooming bulbs in the early spring.
As a general rule, bulbs should be planted in the fall, about six weeks before the ground begins to freeze in your area. |
