Avocado Insert toothpicks into an avocado pit and suspend a quarter inch deep in a glass of water, pointed end up. Maintain water level. In a few weeks, when roots are two inches long, remove toothpicks and plant in an 8" pot, water regularly. Pineapple Cut off the top of a pineapple, about an inch below the leaves. Trim away the top, leaving the core attached to the leaves. Dry for several days. Insert in sand. Rooting takes 6-8 weeks. When rooted, remove from sand and plant in a container of well drained soil. Sweet Potato To sprout, place in a glass of water, with the end where the potato was attached to the vine pointing up. Shoots will develop in a few days. Train to grow on a trellis or around a window. Citrus Trees For grapefruits, oranges, lemons, and limes; place seeds in small containers of potting soil with good drainage. Most will sprout in about two weeks. Keep well watered, in a warm location. Beans Soak dried beans in water for 24 hours. Plant in a container of well drained potting soil in a sunny location, water often. Potatoes Place a small potato with eyes in a deep container of potting soil. Place container in a bright, sunny window. |
