  • Prune wisteria vines, crape myrtles, and rose bushes during winter.
  • Plant bare-root trees and shrubs.
  • Transplant evergreen and deciduous shrubs during the winter months while they are dormant.
  • Prune summer blooming shrubs and ornamental vines.
  • Plant new roses in early winter.
  • Divide early spring blooming bulbs.
  • Calla lilies, paperwhites, and amaryllis will bloom indoors during winter.
  • Mid to late February is the time to ferilize shrubs and evergreens.
  • Start petunia, ageratum, and vinca
    seeds indoors in late winter.
  • January is the best time to fertilize lilacs and primrose.
  • Plant heather and other winter flowering shrubs in January.

  • Cut forsythia branches and bring indoors in late winter, place in water for early bloom.

  • Plant lilies during the month of February.

  • Add extra pinebark mulch to protect the tender new growth of spring blooming bulbs in late January.

  • December is a good month to take hardwood cuttings, and remove dead growth from azaleas, rhododendron, and other evergreens.
