HOBO NICKEL - "HENRY JACOBS" - THE COIN DEALER

In the book, The Hobo Nickel, By Joyce Ann Romines, on pages 22 and 23, is made mention of Henry Jacobs, a coin dealer from Lousville, Kentucky, that bought hobo carvings from the well known carver of the times known as "Bo".
A search of our family geneology records seems to indicate that Henry was a cousin to my Grandfather, who was a coin collector from southeastern Colorado. It was because of seeing the hobo nickels that my Grandfather had in his collection, when I was in my early teens, that got me started carving hobo nickels. I have no idea if some of the coins in "Gramps's" collection came from Henry or not, but I would bet they did. I don't have a picture of Henry, but our family records state that he was "a tall, well dressed, confident man, with a big moustache".

This is my "tribute" to Henry. He is carved on a VG/F 1936 buffalo nickel, and is signed on the reverse with my usual G hanging J mark. This is a higher grade carving with a very smooth field, a bold border, and a smooth clean coin rim, well seperated from the border.
This is an excellent, mistake free carving, that I am sure you would be proud to have in your collection. I was tempted to keep this, myself, but I am not a collector, and it needs to go to a good home of someone who is.

Happy Collecting and thanks for looking,
