HOBO NICKEL - "HAPPY RANCHER"

This carving is a likeness of a neighbor, that owns a ranch, just up the road a ways from where I live. His name is Jess, a big, raw boned, happy-go-lucky sort of a guy that almost always has a smile on his face.
Jess is carved on a light date, 1927 buffalo nickel that has my usual G hanging J mark on the reverse. The field is very smooth and all of the detail is very crisp and clean. Notice the better ear and the detailing of the eye. The teeth show up a lot better, when viewed in person, than they do in this scan. The redish color that you see on the collar and the hat band is on the carving. It is something new that I have just learned how to do in the toneing process.
This would be a nice coin to add to your higher grade hobo collection.

Happy collecting and thanks for looking,
