The US Democratic Party is the oldest political party in the world. Originally called the Democratic-Republican Party, it was founded in 1792, lapsed for a while. The modern party dates from 1832.
The Democratic Party invented the Party Convention in 1832. Prior to this the Presidential Candidates were nominated in a Caucus.
The Longest Democratic Convention Seventeen Days-(June 24-July 9, 1924). It took 103 ballots due to a stalemate between Al Smith and William Gibbs McAdoo. The Convention settled on John Davis of West Virginia (1873-1955), who got 8 million votes to Calvin Coolidge's 15 million.
The Shortest Democratic Convention The Shortest-6 hours (July 9-10 (1872) The nominee was Horace Greeley, who died after the Election.
The Oldest Democratic Candidate The Oldest Democratic Presidential Nominee was Lewis Cass, age 66 (1848)

The youngest was William Jennings Bryan, age 36 (1896)
The First Democratic Female Governor The first woman to become a Governor under any circumstances was a Democrat. Nellie Taylor Ross
succeeded her husband, the late Governor of Wyoming (btw she is still the only woman who ever served as Governor of Wyoming)
to become Governor of Wyoming. She served from 1925-1927, being defeated for a subsequent
term because of her refusal to campaign.
The First Democratic Female Senator
On October 3, 1922, Rebecca Felton, age 87, was appointed Senator by the Governor of Georgia. The appointment was meant to be a good will gesture towards newly enfranchised women voters and to not allow a rival to gain incumbency through appointment. Rebecca Felton served one day. The first Democratic Woman to be elected in her own right without being a widow/wife/appointee was Barbara Mikulksi (D-Maryland)
The earliest Convention Date Was a rump Successionist one in 1860,(April 23-May 3rd) when the Democratic Party fractured over slavery. This session ended without a nominee
The Latest Convention Date Was four years later in 1864 (August 29-31, 1864)The nominee was George B McClellan, the legendary Civil War General. called "Little Mac" by Lincoln.
