"I think we should come up with a beautiful vision of Kerry in the Oval Office, writing up executive orders that get this country back in the right direction again. I have to admit that if I just imagine him on Inauguration Day I still feel the fear. There is so much damage that has been done to the collective psyche, so much healing that needs to be done, so many dark policies that need to be overturned. So I imagine him signing documents, and I imagine a feeling of purpose and strength in him. And I imagine him, thread by thread, reknitting the fabric of a moral society with a real vision of the future. Each thread goes to a different part of the country or the world, each to a different purpose. Some go to factories, reconnecting them to the moral foundation of repsonsibility about their pollution. Some go to family planning clinics half a world away to restore the fight against HIV/AIDS. Some go to the leaders of other nations to restore friendships and trust. Many go to our soldiers to heal the wounds that an ungrateful and exploitive adminstration has wrought. Some go to new training centers for the unemployed, to give them skills for the future. Each thread is a part of the fabric of what must be restored and what must be built anew to bring us into the future and heal the wounds of the past four years. Each thread streams out from our new administration and at the center of it stands President Kerry. That is my visualization."

I've started having thoughts about what it will be like being able to take a true stress-less breath once Kerry is elected. I wonder if, after all of the stress of the last 4 years, people will just go on a large holiday binge just to make up for all of the sad, stressful, and just plain disoriented feeling we have had. I just imagine Teresa running around the White House with her decorator, throwing out all of the trashy stuff that Laura put in there. Not that Laura's done much decorating: she's too Xanaxed out to unpack and do things properly. She'd rather smoke than talk to decorators anyway. But I can see Teresa putting all kinds of African art around, all of her beloved things that she's collected over the years upstairs and downstairs too. She's picking out colors and looking at fabric swatches and having a ball doing this. And she's good. She's had to do several mansions and is just dying to do something really impressive. Elizabeth is accompanying her, giving little bits of suggestions and watching this dynamo at work getting it all done. Kerry of course is redoing the Oval Office in a more Federal period style, a touch of old New England nautical, perhaps mostly navy blue and gold. But all that Texas fake trash is leaving by the front door and by the back as necessary, replaced by a more sophisticated and tasteful style.
