For Vermont and Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut, anywhere up there, this is the season for the "leaf peepers", people who come up to look at the tremendous number of gold, brown, and red foilage. It comes from all of those insurance calendars we grew up with: the New England Cobblestone church surrounded my acres and acres of fall foilage. The country church was on the side of a narrow country road. It's a reminder of the times, we look back with a little guilt, when church-going meant getting up and riding in an open cart for miles and sitting on wooden benches, when there really was a Sabbath for non-Jews to observe. Now Sunday is as much a rush as the rest of the week.

But I'm digressing. The other appeals are apple cider and maple syrup, home-made quilts and crafts, fresh produce by the side of the road sold by the bushel.

Libra covers most of the month: the sign of partnership, balance, and diplomacy. Libra is refined, artistic. Libra is concerned with sex, law, money, not in their physical aspects, but in the principles of right handling of the same. Gender indentity is also one of the concerns of Libra, balancing the male and female principles. Libra is attracted to contemplation, rules the relationship between the West and the Orient.

Isn't Columbus Day the most undercelebrated holiday ever? Not quite, but the other ones such as Flag Day and Arbor Day at least are in better weather. The only people that really observe it seem to be Italians: everyone else treats it as the proverbial "bank holiday", where you are off, but no real effort is expended to celebrate at all.

Libra tries to travel between opposing points of view or states of mind in searh of the point of harmony. The need of Libra is to make a definite choice, not simply vacillate constantly or refuse to respond to the choice. Equilibrium and choice must become Libra's choice. Paradoxical? Not really, for forward progress is a result of choices made and discarded.
