Santa Claus with a belly shaking from jollity, hands out gifts without thought of reward or even gratitude to all who are good. His giving comes out of a spirit of abundance and a need to bring happiness to sad world. He knows its just one day, but one day of happiness is itself a gift. The original St Nicholas gave gifts not only of money, but of freedom. An old man had three daughters. But he had no money to give them for a dowry. In those days it meant that they would have to earn it through prostitution. St Nicholas gave the old man three gold balls, saving his daughters dignity and freedom.
The gambler with a fur coat and pockets full of money.
