What is it about this week? So many people dying, so much suffering this week. I lost two icons this week: Michael Jackson (I was 13 when "I want You Back" came out), and the Farrah Fawcett (my brother had a poster of her on his wall). I didn't mind it when icons of the 50's and even early 60's went, but this is cutting it a bit close. Michael could have been by baby brother, Farrah my big sister.

Everybody's Going on Welfare

My theme of the day: "Everybody's Going on Welfare". What happens to the working class when there's no working class working? When white and blue collars both share the same park bench in the middle of the day? I think we are about to find out.

How many of us are counting the days until Obama takes over? Forget counting down to Christmas-more people are looking to see if there is really is a Barack Obama, and will he come down the chimney January 20th in fine style.

Times like these make me grateful I'm in a Credit Union, and that my mortgage is in a Community Bank. Credit Unions weren't allowed to get in all of the crazy stuff by both their members and the rules of the game, and Community Banks are far more conservative and skeptical. If you still have a checking account worth something, thank them for staying out of the rigged game. Remember all of the cash lures the big banks were making to get you to sign on? What is it like to find out that not just your account is gone, but the bank vanished too-and the remains are to be found in a financial institution in the Caribbean. You can't afford to go on Vacation to the next town over, but your money and the banker holding it is lying in a fortified beach house on an unmarked island. Fortified, because seven million angry investors would storm the place if they ever found out where it is. Of course, given the fact that the Feds are left holding the bag, they may get there before the crowd-soldiers get restless if they don't get paid.
Now on to the astrology behind the turmoil: Pluto in Capricorn is coming back. Pluto rules mass movements, metabolic power, mass money and resources, and the power of the underworld. Capricorn rules hierarchy, business, the building trades and tradition. Combining the two: Pluto in Capricorn-the last time this occurred: (1770's), it brought in a whole new political order. America was born out of 13 colonies: the French went for "liberte', fraternitie, equalite". The ancient rule of Kings and a narrow elite of aristocrats was replaced by democracy and the rule of law instead of people. Nowadays in more developed nations, Democracy, with its controlled revolutions of regular elections works pretty well to bring needed change without all the blood and fear. Another relative democratising occured: the rise of modern business where effort, not bloodlines brought both power and prosperity. However, as modern democracy itself comes to its Pluto Return, we are reminded that one area of life has yet to truly democratize: the Corporation. Corporations have in many cases ruled like barons over their landholdings-sometimes literally in the third world. Company towns, and the idea that business is always right are two signs that democracy has yet to come to the wallet as fervently as political democracy to the rest of society.

Its worth noting that the political party that defends aristocracy in our country, the Republicans, have been repudiated this election pretty resounding. Americans want to be citizens with the responsibility that it entails, not serfs looking upward for guidance. They also want to be more than employees, but shareholders and have a say in management as well. We'll get off the bench by sharing the responsibility for making the bench and buying it too. We'll be depositors and bankers. And welfare recipients too-by sharing the wealth and finally getting that social democracy that Europe has. This time we'll not only take over Versailles, but live in it too as rightful owners as the result of it being caught up in the mortgage crisis and the people taking it back.

Madame Defarge will take up her knitting and knit us a new economy this time.

ABUNDANCE PRAYER

1. I am always in the flow of universal abundance and all my needs are met.
>
> 2. I call forth abundance, prosperity, health, and wellbeing as my natural birthright and the birthright of all humanity and I manifest them abundantly.
>
> 3. I am blessed with the gift of psychic energy and I use it to multiply and pass on the blessings I receive.
>
> 4. My wealth is in alignment with the Universe and working for the highest good for all humanity.
>
> 5. I gratefully receive my birthright of abundance and prosperity on all levels of my being.
>
> 6. Through love, all things are healed and blessings flow freely.
>
> 7. I consciously choose the focus of my intention, manifesting my highest good in the physical world

AMEN…let it be spoken, let it be done.

I'm a strong believer in metaphysical stuff...affirmations and denials and positive thinking. One benefit for me is that I always feel there is a solution to my problem-not always the one I anticipated, but there is one if I search for it. I'm at least a nominal member of the Unity Church-while I now am a member of the "Church of the Restful Sabbath", I still read the stuff I have gotten from them from time to time.

The first thing that you notice if you are an astrologer is that big Aquarius stellium in the tenth. (For you amateurs, stellium is four or more planets in conjunction). Stelliums impart a great deal of intensity, and in the tenth, public standing is a near obsessive focus of attention for the incoming Obama Administration.

Obama's November

What's next for Obama? There is two months before Obama officially takes the reigns, but still there is a lot to watch for, because these two months will set the tone of the entry into office. It will be interesting to see how Obama makes the transformation from Senator to President?
This is a good time to introduce a trick that I learned from my mentor. This tool allows you to just look at an ephemeris and see if there are any transits for something or someone during a month. So just what is going on with Obama this week? Example:
November 2008 Ephemeris
Just looking down the Ephemeris list and comparing numbers with the list you have created, we see no big transits among the heavies. Mostly Mars, which is fitting for a contest already ended. On the 10, Mars sextile Mars, square Saturn, he may have the opportunity to push against a frustrating obstacle, on the 13, we may see a flash of unexpected temper that is really not in his best interests. On the 14, he may be more than usually personally assertive, on the 17 effort leads to expansive opportunities, the 24th, an old wound may stir up some emotion, the 25th, an explosive burst of temper and a bit of institutional struggle.Overall, transitwise, it looks like a pretty quiet month where Obama tries to do-and perhaps catch up ordinary events.

Venus=1 Cancer

Pluto=6 Virgo

Neptune=8 Scorpio

Ascendant=18 Aquarius

Saturn=25 Capricorn

Pumpkin Week

The week before Halloween is Pumpkin Week, the week when the streets explode with orange-orange leaves, bright orange plastic pumpkins, and the muted orange of the real ones, candy corn, and sometimes orange traffic cones as last-minute road work gets completed. People either shiver with delight or the cold as winter makes its first nippy arrival. Every four years, the shiver falls on the losing party in the Presidential Election, the first sign that the next term will be another one out in the cold.

So what does Pumpkin Week have in store this time? For America, it's transiting Neptune inconjunct natal Neptune by transit. America is getting a second look at all old fearmongering and is having to adjust to new realities and discarding the old fears. Tinfoil is the style as people contemplate missing ballots and misprogrammed electronic voting machines.
Obama's has transiting Neptune in the first, so much of the fearmongering is about him and his "mysterious" past (re his birth-First house) He supposedly has "mysterious origins". He is also the target of all of the Neptunian fearmongering as well. Fortunately he's level-headed, so the effect makes him more glamorous and not fearful.
Sunday 10/26, Venus conjunct Obama's Point of Fortune: While points aren't planets, it is a sensitive place. Obama gets good luck today.
October 10/31-Mars squares ASC-Obama should be careful how he handles some of the more tifoil hatty material he may hear today.

So there is going to be shivers-hopefully just from the cold this week reflecting off of the roofs, and not from the many tinfoil hats people will be wearing instead of good old fashioned wool.

Sagittarius Week

Written Last Year, I hate to have been right on some of this stuff.

Welcome to Sagittarius Week

Starting with the New Moon in Sagittarius, this is a powerful week for Sagittarian energy.New Moons are the beginning of the monthly energy cycle. At the New Moon cosmic and emotional energy is concentrated, therefore, it's a good time to begin projects. What kind of projects? Sagittarius likes to grow and explore, so this is a good time to start those projects that expand the mind, such as reading philosophy, or meditation. Actually, any time is good for meditation, but this time is excellent for dealing with the more devotional, philosophical kind of meditation. This may also be a good time to explore higher education or to learn a foreign language.

This beginning of the monthly cycle has once again brought us news about religion, international affairs, higher education and speculation. There's the climate conference in Bali, the granting of the Nobel Prize to Al Gore, the upcoming withdrawal of troops from Basra by the British, the international effects of the housing market decline, and the shootings at Ted Haggard's church in Colorado.

Next comes Jupiter and Pluto combined in Sagittarius, (1:26 pm EST, 28 Sagittarius December 11, 2007, the culmination/end of a 12-year cycle of great expansion and high optimism. When Pluto and Jupiter last conjoined back in 1995 it was in Scorpio, and it ended/culminated a period of economic contraction where what grew was mostly decay: the drug trade, and the rot of the end of Communism. There were positive things: the quiet growth in reproductive technology, the exploration of the human genome, the growth of hospices. What then began was a great deal of speculation and expansion, a growing interest in international matters fueled by terrorism and the internet. That period is ending, and a more pragmatic (Capricorn) approach is coming to many matters. Suddenly the rhetoric of fanaticism is cooling down, atheism at least gets a hearing, and people now realize just how diverse we really are and that we need to at least try to get along for the sake of the planet. Another end of a cycle.So just what is going on here? The gambling isn't so much the usual kinds, although places that specialize in that should do pretty well this season. With the influence of Pluto, Vegas is exploring its darker side. There is a mobster's museum that is being proposed for Los Vegas. For years, Los Vegas has tried to play down it's mob origins. But the growing self-exploration of Capricorn allows for no such dishonesty, so now the museum is coming to life.

The other kind of gambling, the stock market, is facing near melt-down as the housing speculation and the shady deals are coming to light-Capricorn demands honesty here too.

Religion is also going through similar probing and exposure. Indeed, religion seems to be a big issue right now with Huckabee's "optimistic fundamentalism" and Romney "apologize for being a Mormon" speech. Another, more darker side, is the church shootings in Colorado, the investigations of several tv ministries, and the growing scrutiny by skeptics of church claims. The Church of Scientology is going to be banned in Germany. The church is now having to explain itself when for so long they have taken acceptance-and indeed massive political power- for granted. During this long Sagittarius period it has had to deal with the massive scandals of the pedophile priests, televangelists, and the exploitation of the needy. Now society as a whole (Pluto) is now talking back and asking questions. Just who is the church serving? What is it supposed to do with its power and resources? While society,
thanks in part to the internet, is trying to distribute information and power (Aquarius Neptune), the church has stood off, refusing to decentralize, demanding that those who do not share its doctrines must obey, not through joining the church and becoming members, but by forcing legislatures to pass laws that enshrine its doctrines into law. Think about all of the amendments to state constitutions outlawing gay marriage.The objections were purely doctrinal. The state would simply have issued a few more marriage licenses, and perhaps needed a few more judges on its part. The churches would have divided doctrinally, but since people can choose what religion they can practice, folks who agreed or disagreed would have simply gone to their respective corners. There were other attempts to enshrine things such as creationism, prayer in school, whatever. The result? Pushback, emptying pews, and assertiveness on the part of minority religious viewpoints. It looks like religious fundamentalism is winding down a bit in favor of more "help the poor and the planet". Religion must now work for people in their daily lives, not simply talk about the rapture. The emphasis on the Apocalyse will go away in favor of a religious consciousness that has a more present-day emphasis on character and dignity. character. Indeed, I expect a new and growing emphasis on stewardship, and the revival of some traditional liturgical practices as part of the character training. Once again, Capricorn demands honesty.

While I don't expect the megachurches to go away, some of the glitz that helps nobody, including the planet itself, definitely will. The megamall church must now become a real community with real links to the community and a real purpose for being. Examples of the upcoming changes: There is a small but growing "green church" movement that will pick up speed as the months and weeks go by.

People will have to remember fundamentals of both economics and politics to get by. For years the assumption here in America was that we could all do each other's laundry: foreigners could do the hard work of actually making and growing things. We could have what no country could ever have before: an entirely service-oriented economy. Never mind that we never invested in the free education, healthcare, and infrastructure that could have made such a thing workable, nor the regulation of imports that could have made sure they were at least safe. The manufactured goods have not lived up to American standards, many are proposing immigration restrictions and reforms that end the cheap labor that some businesses have used to keep costs low ,and thanks to 9/11-induced hypersecurity measures and xenophobia, many foreigners are bypassing the United States for tourist destinations that are less oppressive and nasty, like Cuba.

Now America-and the world-will now once again have to deal with the actual physical process of living, loving, and growing. It will once again have to deal with real need and real suffering. It is about to go from tweed back to flannel.

It sustained me while I walked across the Quadrangle in college on my way to breakfast on cold chilly mornings. When we had our 10 am astrology meetings under an outside shelter and the wind would pick up a bit, and we needed to get the eyes open and the fingers warm, coffee kept us going and was a bridge that got us to noon.

So I like coffee. Good coffee. Fancy coffee like lattes andmocha, with a bagel and lox.Unfortunately, its an infrequent love because of the whipped cream and the caffeine combined with the sweet syrup. Oh, and at $4 or so, pretty expensive too. That's designer coffee for you. Only Starbucks could persuade someone that a $7 coffee break (add a $2 roll) is just the thing to do every day. Venti latte, American (regular coffee), expresso, just hand over your credit card to the professionals and stand back away from the sound of the damage.

But if you are willing to make latte at home, I found a healthy recipe for you.
Coffee Latte
Ingredients:
1-1/4 cups regular grind espresso or other dark roast coffee
1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
6 cups water
2-1/2 teaspoons EQUAL® FOR RECIPES or SPLENDA
2-1/2 cups skim milk
Ground cinnamon or nutmeg

Instructions:

Place espresso and cinnamon stick in filter basket of drip coffee pot; brew coffee with water. Stir sugar into coffee; pour into 8 mugs or cups.

Heat milk in small saucepan until steaming. Blend half of milk in blender at high speed until foamy, about 15 seconds; pour milk into 4 mugs of coffee, spooning foam on top. Repeat with remaining milk and coffee. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg before serving.

Yield: 8 servings

I have everything! Already! It seems I am always missing something that requires a trip to not just the store around the corner, but a store much further away or an ingredient that I know locally is so hard to find.

I will make this tomorrow and report on how it tastes.
