SHERM LOLLAR

Born: August 23, 1924 Durham, Arkansas
Died: September 24, 1977
John Sherman Lollar was a catcher in Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians (1946), New York Yankees (1947-1948), St. Louis Browns (1949-1951), and the Chicago White Sox (1952-1963). His best season was 1959, when he drove in 89 runs and smacked 22 homers while the White Sox won the American League pennant.

In spite of his remarkable slowness afoot, Lollar was an All-Star in 1950, 1954-1956, 1958-1960, and won the Gold Glove in 1957-1959
