The project took four years of methodical planning and exhaustive feasibility studies, ensuring that the islands would not be disrupting the environment. The first stage of the development of The Palm Islands, includes the construction of the land foundations, involving sand transfer and rock placement. Following this, the next state will involve the building of infrastructure and services, as well as the 300 meter (990 feet) bridges linking the islands to the mainland. The final stage consists of the construction of homes, townhouses, and apartments.
The deal that Nakheel announced brings together two of the world's flashiest developers, and marks Trump's first foray into the Middle East. Nakheel says it has 14 projects worth $30 billion completed or planned. It is run by Dubai's crown prince, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
A second project, The Trump Plaza and Marina Residences, will also be built on the Palm Jumeira, Nakheel announced in a statement.
The Fairmont Palm Residence benefits from an extensive range of services provided by the neighbouring Fairmont Palm Hotel & Resort, managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. These include a club with membership access, private beach, swimming pool, modern health club, children's playground, restaurants and cafés, apartment servicing, housekeeping and maintenance, maid and childcare services and owners' reception area with concierge and security for a nominal fee.
