("Feed The Birds"...from Mary Poppins)

"YOU REALLY ARE MY FRIEND"

If you looked and gave a smile
If you lingered but a while
If you walked with me that mile
You are truly my good friend

If your shoulder you did lend
If you made my problem mend
If good wishes you did send
You are truly my good friend

If you called to say hello
If you raised my spirits low
If the proper path you show
You are truly my good friend

Call me if I'm needed
I'll always hear your plea
I'll always be there for you
As you are, my friend, for me.

"HOSPITAL ANYONE"
(Ode to a Hemroidectomy)

I laid upon the table
In gown so loose and drab
And as the Nurses passed me
I'd reach right out to grab

I.V. Needles in me
E.K.G.s and more
Probing here and over there
My body got real sore

But then they rolled my table
To the O.R. for a stay
I don't remember anything
So there's nothing I can say

The story that they tell me
The removal of a mass
"From Where" - is your big question
And my answer is - "My Ass"

I sit down kind of gentle
Don't move around too well
And I can tell you frankly
The experience was pure Hell

I'm very glad it's over
I'm glad as hell it's done
Cause Doctors probing up your ass
Ain't my idea of fun!

Mr. Doug

"A LIFE OBSERVATION"

Life is a test. Sometimes it feels like
it's a _pop quiz_! You know, one you're never
prepared for. Or that you forgot to study for!

Other times, it's like a _spelling bee_,
ware yu haf to git op n frunt of peeple,
n mak n ass of yurself! LOL

But most times, it's like
a _multiple choice_ test! Where every
minute of our lives we have to make choices
that will affect not only our lives, but the lives
of those around us. Scarey to think about!

I wonder. If life _is_ a test,
how do we humans score, in comparison
with all other species?..........

We need to study harder!

On June 25, 1999,
I challenged the Young At Heart family to write some
original poetry. The following 11 poems in this volume,
and the first 6 poems in volume 3, were posted
under the "YAH RHYMES" thread, in the
YAH newsgroup. Well done everyone!....SaSSy

Congratulations to the poets who shared their
words with us. They have recieved an award from
our own Mr. Doug! Thank you, Doug!

"SUMMER TIME"

Summer time just started four days ago, I am looking
forward to more sun and not as much snow.

I love the warm weather, and watching all the flowers
grow, this is a season I hate to see go.

The smell of fresh cut grass, as the lawns are kept trimmed
and neat, i don't even mind sweating in all this heat.

I love how the days all seem so long, and all the birds
outside my window chirping their song.

The beautiful butterflies, that flutter their wings, they are another part of the wonderful things.

The bee's that keep buzzing around my ear, Oh my,
these little things I am in great fear.

Even the garden snake that suddenly appeared, I run
for my life hoping it will just disappear.

All the children outside laughing and playing, because
they have no school, If you do not like the sound,
you would have to be a fool.

The mornings when the grass is all wet with dew, one
thing for sure, I am so happy to have met all of you.

I have just one more thing to say, you wanted it this way,
you asked for a poem... and now you must PAY!

"I HAVE A FRIEND"

I have a friend, so far away...
He came to see me, one summer day.

We took our time, getting to know ourselves...
And found life so serene with no worries on the shelves...

We walked, we talked, we sat quietly...
We ate, and we laughed... there was so much to see...

My life has been blessed, with the addition of him...
And I can't wait to be able to be there again...

"I'M SO ALONE"

The years have faded,
That's for sure.
Seems like the memories,
Are just a blur.

Days go by,
Without a call,
And soon summer,
Has turned to fall.

Where are the children,
They seem so grown.
We used to play,
I'm so alone

"A PRAYER TO MOM AND DAD"

Mommy and Daddy
I Miss You Each Day
In God's Tender Arms and Care
Are Your Souls I Do Pray...

Watching and Guiding
Each Step I Now Take
So For the Rest of My Life
Wrong Turns I Not Make...

I Wish You Were With Me
But Since You Can't Be
Just Remember I Love You
Till I'm Finally With Thee...

Your Loving Daughter,

"SHOULD HAVE WORN A BELT"

A poem should be like a story, so here goes,
Story is true, I'll be embarrassed to disclose!

While walking around the local mall,
What happened is my pants did fall!

Every one was looking at me,
I couldn't move and needed to pee!

I was mortified, started to cry,
Told god I was ready, wanted to die!

Pulled my pants up, held them tight,
Ran like hell, till I was outa sight!

To the toilet I needed to get,
But didn't make it, pants got wet!

Don't get the wrong impression, I have class,
I always wear undies, so no one saw my ass!

But can you imagine how I felt,
I was stupid should have worn a belt!

"THE LIFE OF A GODDESS"

Ahhhh......the life of a "Goddess,"
Filled with "bon-bon's" and naps,
To keep my "Goddess" figure,
Gotta run many laps.

Mile after mile,
On the treadmill I go,
Gotta "work off" those bon-bon's,
Or else, they will show.

The scales, how I hate them,
My weight's "up and down,"
Oh Boy!...It's time to get ready,
For my night on the town.

Gonna go out to dinner,
It's "all you can eat,"
But I've got to be careful,
For those "scales," I will meet.

First thing in the morning,
I know I must do it,
Step onto those scales,
Like there's nothing to it.

It's much too depressing,
My weight is atrocious,
The big problem you see,
My appetite's ferocious.

Between food, "soaps", and naps,
I've not got much spare time,
Get your hands off those "bon-bon's,
" CANT YOU SEE THAT THEY'RE MINE?

Ahhhhh.....The life of a "Goddess,"
Someone's gotta do it......zzzzzzzzzz

"GRACIE"

"HONEYBABE"

I had a Horse call Honey
She was always in the Money
Her game was to show.
So away she would go.

She walked
And listen so well.
With her head so high
You could tell.

The moment announcer
gave a command,
she did it herself.
With hardly a hand.

Oh what a winner
she always will be
although she left me in 1985.

"I MUST HAVE A PROBLEM"

I must have a problem,
the children say so.
They invite me over but,
heck I don't go.

The dishes are dirty,
and junks on the floor.
Heaven help me if
you come to my door.

but ironing is out.
Wrinkles are fashion.
I say with no doubt.

Mealtime forget it.
I'm so busy you see.
Just call in an order,
have someone bring it to me.

I have graphics to make,
and email to read.
I really must hurry,
and work on my speed.

I must have a problem,
the family will say.
Nope, no problem here,
Just me and my webby
having a normal day.

"ODE TO THE POPE'S NOSE"

"Dibs on the Drumstick"
we all would scream!
"a Thigh" will be Jim's Pick!
"just a Wing"...Ann would Beam!

"Who'll have White Meat"?
and "Who'll have Dark"?
we laughed, "give Art the Feet"!
by Golly! even the Dog did Bark!

Some plumb Breast for Me
and Nancy, and I think, John"?
Dark, had Louise, Carol n' Maggie!
also Charles, and don't forget Mom!

Our pretend angel, Vera choose a Wing!
"You're a'going to Heaven someday"
we would all sing!!
and she did...in God's own way!

Papa, as Fathers seem to know
the time was growing Late,
cut off the Pope's Nose
for the Dog, a'laying in Wait!

"CRITTER"

I had a little critter,
Who was so bitter,
Until one day,
He saw a YAH critter.

Now this critter has a very friendly family.
They call themselves "Young at Heart".
So now this friendly family,
Keeps the critter from being bitter.
