You couldn't help but be touched by Verne's optimistism and energy. He always had enthusiasm for whatever he was doing. I enjoyed the months I lived in his house when I was a student.

Dear Family & Friends,
Our Family would like to thank all of you for expressing your loving thoughts and memories of our Daddy, Grandfather and Greatgrandfather. We look forward to hearing from more of you in the future. This has enabled us to talk to friends and family that we haven't heard from in a long while. We are extremely grateful for all of your kind thoughts.

My dearest Boppie .... I always will remember all of our goodtimes. From camping, to home cooked meals while I was in college, to good company and stories while I was on bed rest for 13 1/2 weeks with your triplet great grandchildren. You were a blessing to our family. My love to you always. Love, Melissa lee (granddaughter)

Verne will be missed by both of us. We always looked forward to his calls as he was always so upbeat. It seems as tho God takes the dearest. He was so lucky to have found love a second time.

My fondest childhood memories are growing up in the small community of Ohiowa,Nebraska with loving Parents,Grandparents and three caring and wonderful brothers. On our way to and from school we always stopped by "Little Grandpa's" and "Little Grandma's" house for a treat or to hide under the porch and jump out and scare "Little Grandma" when she came to the door. Verne was our mentor. He excelled in everything from sports to music, speech and debate. He was a very tough act to follow. After graduating from High School we all went our seperate ways but remained close. Gods grace offers us the strength we need to deal with the pain of losing the ones we love.

As a 2nd cousin to Verne, I didn't know him all that well. But, he always showed interest in my foreign travels and was always gracious and kind to me. God bless you.

I am so sorry for the loss of one of our great family members. I remember Verne from gatherings at "Uncle Bob" Upton's house when he was still in California. I pray for God's peace and comfort to all of you who loved him and knew him best.

Vern was a person that I always looked to as a example of how to be. He was much admired and never equaled. Our prayers are with "Willie, Nancy and Carol Sue" at this time of remembrance.
