May there always be work for your hands to do;
May your purse always hold a coin or two;
May the sun always shine on your window pane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

March 17

An Irish holiday honoring St. Patrick, a missionary credited with converting the Irish to Christianity. In America, St. Patrick's Day is a time to wear green and celebrate. The first American celebration of St. Patrick's Day was held in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1737. As the saying goes, on this day, "everybody is Irish".

Green is associated with St. Patrick's Day because it is the color of Spring, Ireland, and the Shamrock. Leprechauns are also associated with this day and are called Irish fairies. According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly, live alone and pass their time away by making shoes, and their little hidden pots of gold.
