Here are some facts about German Shepherds. Shepherds are territorial and protective of their familiar place and grounds! They have a good sense when it comes to who would or would not harm their owner or property. They are 3rd on the list of intelligence according to the Compton Reports. They learn quickly. When taken to obedience class. Usually each new trick comes immediately. Its up to the owners of these marvelous animals to work with them, They don't forget either. They also don't forget being teased and treated in a bad way! They remember! They make excellent watchdogs. Excellent police dogs, because they will defend to the death! Excellent companions. They are more or less a 1 owner dog. But when trained properly, they will obey and respond to command. If told to back off, they back off, If told to attack, they attack. If told not to bother another animal in public, when trained, they will immediately back off. Work with them. Make them respect what you say. Don't let them run you. Be in control at all times. Lady says she will not quit chasing cats no matter what I say. That is 1 command she doesn't respond to. Oh well! She does well in all other areas. She senses how I'm feeling and acts accordingly! It really amazes me how smart she really is. When I leave her in the car for a short time, I don't have to worry about anyone bothering anything. She's terrific. Why do you think they used Shepherds as the first seeing eye dogs? Think about it.
