I first began getting Shingles
back when I was around 20. At first slowly then almost monthly, like clockwork. Then the months turned into years, years into decades. Until you feel like a freak for a science lab.

People can get them in any place around their spinal area, on the back near the hip as I do, sometimes they even form a band around the trunk of your body. Some unfortunate folks can get them around their eyes...and I thought I had it bad?? I cannot begin to imagine that one.

Living with this 'secret' I guess is one reason why I decided to be a 'loner' so as not to spread it. Little did I know that they can ONLY be transmitted if one has say SEX during an outbreak. Any other time is fine...

Thanks to the internet and my Chiropractor, I am learning a lot about this 'dreaded' virus that usually stays dormant in your body unless something happens to wake it up. You see once you have chicken pox, the virus stays within your body, you never get rid of it. For some of us it chooses to be 'active'. Like me...YIKES!!

When I first got 'it', I had no idea what was going on. Being uninsured I was basically on my own with this. Also being young I was rather afraid. As time went on and they became rather 'recurrent', I decided to educate myself National Institute of Infectious Diseases; Med Info; FDA Version
on them. I had a hint of what I had as a friend of mine whom I was living with, (galfriend), had what she called Shingles on her armpit. For her, surgery seemed to be the answer. Somehow they cut a cord and she has been fine ever since. I thought perhaps I got 'it' from her, no we didnt have sex, just good friends sharing an apartment as we worked for same town paper at the time. She was part of an 'Organization' I got me into..(Another YIKES!..another story)...Nor did I touch her armpits...'g' so for me maybe they just happened to wake up and plague me all these years.

Recently I have developed another burning and itching on my back, only on my shoulder area, Believe me this one really irritates me as it affects me at work.

I had been desperate to find a solution for this new development so had been searching all over the internet for some kind of pain control for this. UPDATE..10/18/08 ..I now have an appt with a 'neurologist'on 10/30/08...sure hope he can help here....

For me the without the rash is daily and all day...thus to me anyhow it appears it may be more relief to have the rash to get the 'fight' out of its system and yours so you can get some relief.

UPDATE:

I had been to my
Chiropractor
today for an x-ray on my neck and it seems my neck pain could very well be coming from a few degenerating discs in my neck, which he is going to try and realign for me. This could lead to an arthritic neck, sure hope not!
