The island
itself
reminded us
very much of Scotland. Rugged coast with much the
same
wildlife, especially the birds. Each day we would
head off
to a different destination, one more
beautiful than
the
other. The viking influence is very
strong,
especially in
Labrador. We went to archaeological
digs, took a boat
trip
to look for whales and to a bird colony, saw large
herds of
caribou, climbed to the top of some
lighthouses,
visited
fishing villages, climbed part way up a
mountain
(luckily
we had to turn back because of time
restraints. Dave
& I
were the only ones dumb enough to
attempt it), went
tide
pooling, and just enjoyed the
magnificence of these
two
places.
