NOVA SCOTIA

map
This is the route we took on our travels

ns1
Pretty scene in the Halifax Botanical Gardens

ns2
The Citadel - highest spot in Halifax and where they overlooked the harbor for enemy vessels

ns3
Nova Scotia means "new Scotland" and you can see the Scottish influence on this guard at the Citadel

ns4

ns5
Views of the harbor from the Citadel

ns6
Whimsical tugboat

ns8
Blomidon Inn in Wolfville - our first overnight. It was originally a nineteenth century sea captain's mansion.

ns9
Our suite - have you ever seen a Jacuzzi tub in the middle of a bedroom before?

ns10
Our 'fire escape'. Since we were on the third floor, I don't know if we'd have been brave enough to use it.

ns11a
Nova Scotia is known for its high tides and this is an example of low tide.

ns11
The Annapolis Valley is known as the 'breadbasket of Nova Scotia' and this scene, taken from one of the dykes protecting the area, shows some of the fertile area.

ns12
Another example of low tide. When the tide is in, the water will be near the top of the pier.

ns13

ns14
The Queen Anne Inn, built in 1865, was our residence while in Annapolis Royal. Life can be so hard.

ns15
Our little bed.

ns16
Dave fell in love with this bubble jet tub. I think I was a little jealous.

ns17
Georgie Porgie in the omnipresent fog, the trusty craft that took us whale watching in the Bay of Fundy.

ns18
Since we've done so much whale watching, I always think I'll be blasé and not take any photos . . . wrong. Happily, the fog lifted just in time for us to frolic with two humpback whales. They were so close to the boat and were breaching, spyhopping, lobtailing, etc. I do so love this picture.

ns19

ns20
Port Royal - a faithful reconstruction of a French compound used from 1605 - 1607. It was really interesting.

ns21

ns22

ns23
Petroglyphs made by the Mi'kmaq (Micmac) Indians

ns30

ns31
The previous pictures were taken in beautiful Kejimkujic National Park (yes, I can pronounce it).

ns32

ns33
The Blue Nose - winner of the first America's Cup . . . this is a faithful reproduction and is used for tours in Lunenberg and Halifax.

ns34
This is the very light fixture on the bank that brought out the entire Lunenberg fire department. It seems the lightbulb blew up and sent up some smoke which was seen by some residents. They called the fire department claiming the bank was on fire. We witnessed the three trucks and firefighters valiantly fighting this horrific inferno . . . no lives were lost.

ns35
Dave and I were moved to this satellite building in the Boscawen Inn in Lunenberg because we wanted twin beds. Compared to the other two Inns, this hotel was a huge disappointment

ns36
Lunenberg

ns37

ns38

ns39
One of the reasons we didn't have private facilities on the island. This outhouse was blown over by hurricane Hugo which devastated the area.

ns40
The previous photos were taken on a private island where we enjoyed a lobster lunch

ns42
Thanks to Gloria, I have this nice photo of Dave and I at Peggy's Cove, our last stop.

ns43
Nancy took this nice picture of us at our farewell dinner.

ns41
Here is everyone (with one exception - notice the blank stare on my face) on our last day. We had such fun together . . .
