My friend Carol asked me to make a coat of many colors for her daughter, who loved that song and wanted to become an actress. She would dance and sing on a part of her bedroom floor dedicated as a stage. I really enjoyed making the coat. My fabric stash got a real workout. My favorite part was the upper back; I wish I still had some of that fabric! This wasn't my first patchwork clothing. I had made Meri three interesting dresses when she was about 9 yr. old, including a Four Seasons dress in four shades of blue with large trees in seasonal array. I had earlier made Valerie a long patchwork skirt from mostly polyester knit fabrics.
