Jason's High School Graduation, 1996

This article was excerpted from one in the July, 1996 Murdock Muse, "Tripping to Minnesota," by Nancy Murdock, Jason's grandmother.

One day in June, Darrel vacuumed the downstairs twice. Yes! It was fun observing Mr. Homeowner enjoy his property. After less than two weeks in his house, Darrel already had everything organized and put away. The day we arrived, in pouring rain and crashing thunder, he picked up "new" living room furniture and trucked it into place minutes before our arrival.

Friday we watched the weather closely and were glad when the sun broke through so Jason's graduation could be outdoors. With 528 grads, only 2 guests would have been allowed in the gymnasium. But we all trooped out to the grandstand for the festivities. Kris Knox was waiting to escort us to seats he and Dawn were saving for us. Amber Knox, 8. volunteered to run down when we dropped cameras, etc. It was a nice graduation, and the class had a great all-night party in the gym afterward.

The next day we had gorgeous weather for Jason' s outdoor party at Knoxes' . Darrel and Kris did the barbecue, and Darrel made a huge, beautiful, purple fruit cup. We all pigged out for several hours and enjoyed visiting with Dawn's family. When we were introduced to Kris's sister, Monica, who moved from CA recently, she surprised us by saying, "I love your newsletter!"

Addendum by Bob Murdock:

Jason shaved his head a month before graduation, to be ready for the Army Reserve, where he has signed up for eight weeks of basic training and 10 weeks of schooling in light-wheel mechanics. After that he will be "free" except for one weekend a month at Fort Snelling and two weeks in summer. College plans aren't firm yet.
