"Fearfully
Made"
By
Bob Tuten
(Lost
River Bulletin, Bowling Green, KY March 2002)
My
friends, how would you like to have an automobile that manufactures
its own fuel from raw materials, does its own cleaning and
repairing, and which would replace its worn out parts?
Impossible,
you say? Yes, for anyone except God (Matt 19:26). "And
looking upon them Jesus said to them, 'With men this is
impossible, but with God all things are possible.' "
The human
body is just such a marvel of engineering excellence!
The great
engineers of ancient Rome who designed and constructed the
dome atop the Pantheon were themselves decked with a dome-shaped
skull atop their heads. The famous arch-supported aqueducts
of Rome were designed by men with arched feet which give
springy support for the body's weight. The arched ribs formed
a flexible cage protecting the organs within the chest.
The famous Greek and Egyptian columns were conceived by
men held upright by two columns, their legs.
Human bones
combine strength and flexibility. The shinbone can bear
about thirty times the weight of the man it supports. Iron
could do no better and would be far too heavy and inflexible.
This marvelous structure is encased in a tissue which neither
chips, splinters, nor weathers away.
The heart
far surpasses any pump ever engineered by man. Pulsating
an average of 70 times a minute, forty million times a year,
this tiny pump moves 7,000 quarts of fluid a day, nearly
200,000 tons in the average lifetime.
Where in
the realm of industrial specialities can one find a high-pressure
filtering apparatus like the kidneys? They can filter 200
quarts of fluid daily, though being composed of only two
structures, each small enough to fit into the palm of your
hand.
Consider
the body's circulatory system. It is made up of about 100
thousand miles of "roads and pipelines" --arteries,
veins, and capillaries--which transport the life-sustaining
nourishment to some 30,000,000,000,000 cells! The body's
five quarts of blood make a complete circuit of this vast
system in only about one minute!
Where among
the engineering feats of men can one find a better environmental
control system than the human body? It regulates its temperature
with an ingenious application of thermostatic control at
about 98 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit regardless of surrounding
air temperature. Body heat is generated by a process known
as metabolism. Molecules of glucose are shattered within
the body and energy is subsequently released as heat. The
body is cooled by the process of evaporation through perspiration.
This is cooling by changing water to vapor, basically the
same system now used in modern refrigeration.
My friends,
if you are tempted to say, "There is no God,"
consider these and many more marvels of your body. The Psalmist
addressed God saying, "I will praise You, for I
am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well" (Psa 139:14).
Truly,
"the fool hath said in his heart, there is no God"
(Psa. 14: 1).

| From
the Internet ...
"Apollo
8, the first manned mission to the Moon, entered lunar orbit
on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1968. That evening, the astronauts;
Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell and
Lunar Module Pilot William Anders did a live television broadcast
from lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth
and Moon seen from Apollo 8. Lovell said, "The vast loneliness
is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have
back there on Earth." They ended the broadcast with the
crew taking turns reading from the book of Genesis. "
Astronaut
William Anders read... "In the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth. And the earth was formless and
void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the
Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then
God said "Let there be light"; and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the
light from the darkness."
Jim Lovell continues: "And God called the light
Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and
the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be
a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide
the waters from the waters.
And God made
the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the
firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:
and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the
evening and the morning were the second day."
Frank
Borman then added: "And God said, Let the waters
under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and
let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the
dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called
he Seas: and God saw that it was good."
Borman
then concluded, "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close
with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless
all of you - all of you on the good Earth."
(These
men were privileged to consider the MARVELS of the universe
from space. While there they gave God the glory. All of us
can praise God for His Creation without going out in space.
Just thinking about the handiwork of God evokes a sense of
wonder and amazement. May we make the same application David
made to the physical body to our UNIVERSE and say, it is "..fearfully
and wonderfully made"? Indeed, this leads us to ask
who it was that said, "There is no God"? ...

TODAY'S
QUOTE
In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him
nothing came into being that has come into being.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John
1: 1- 4).
