The Bright
Yellow
Cow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A long
time ago
when I was quite small, while playing alone, I
happened to fall
And much to my
sorrow I have to
admit, I really was throwing the most dreadful of
fits.
When
all of a sudden I heard some one say, "Hush now,
be quiet you're ruining my day
"With that crying
and ranting and all of that stuff and you're not
really hurt, just dirty and scruffed."
I looked up
amazed for out of the trees, came a bright
yellow cow with blue spotted knees.
She ambled
up to me and nuzzled my knee and the look on her
face... that was something to see.
Such a kindness and
feeling glowed deep in her eyes that when she spoke
softly, I wasn't surprised.
"Look at me now, I
once was all yellow. But I
ranted and raved and hollered and bellowed
"Each
time I fell down or was hurt the least bit;
I threw... like you did... a most dreadful fit.
"Till one day this
fellow, who was really an elf, took a good look at
me and said to himself,
'I'll put a stop to
this blubbering cow; I'll mark her with blue and
I'll do it now!'
"And low and behold
from that very day on my knees had blue spots and
they never have gone.
"So I'm sure to be
laughed at the rest of my
days and jokingly called, 'Old spotty legs!'
"So, if I were you
now, my dear little friend,
I'd hold back the tears or you surely will end
"Up like me for the
whole world to see,
with great big blue spots on your little round
knees."
I thanked her
politely and kissed her pink nose,
as a soft little tear caused her brown eyes to glow.
She blinked, wiped
her nose, smiled a little and then,
slowly turned round to her forest again.
And I never again
was able to see the bright yellow cow with the blue
spotted knees.
The
end
