Inescapable

The leaves at the side of the road
all huddled together to form a colorful
carpet, cupping the raindrops,
making little mirrors for me to check my
eyes in. What I mistook for an inescapable
tear, was the sparkle you painted upon my gaze
with your magical fingertips.

The trees above sighed for me, as the inescapable
landscape of our love was brushed with color. You
made me believe stars were outshined by passion,
and that words skipped across my heart
only to end up in a skyward suction.

Where did we go? I was just out for a
iced coffee when the storm of us hit
dead center and I lost my footing.
The autumn breeze so captivating that
I momentarily lost consciousness
of your presence

Then it was evident that my smile was
big as a crescent-shaped moon as it
brightened the evening haze. Your
touch left an imprint and the breath
of us melted the morning frost to gold
