The crew agreed to wait til morn
By Sugar Bay, in waters warm
With songs of mermaids in their head
They'd tuck the legend into bed
The crew held captive by the sight
Upon a rock in broad sunlight
Princess of the Atlantic Sea
Shell had perched to call Johnnie
He knelt down on the slippery deck
The "Silver Moon" fated to wreck
In a pocket of his dampened coat
Her pearl comb with a musical note
For on a night some months ago
he met her back at Eversong Row
Her lips like roses, soft and sweet
The touch of man made her complete
As she flailed on the coral ridge
Her heart beat red with love's language
He saw a stream of blood so red
Flowing to the ocean bed
The crew still feared the mermaid's wrath
Ships wrecked when crossing Hollow Path
So they awaited Johnnie's word
Would he stay, or head landward?
He hesitated, but her eyes drew him
To take her for an enchanted swim
As the ship drifted closer to shore
Would Johnnie move to the ocean floor?
He longed to touch her face once more
To hear her song forever more
But he knew nothing of the Deep
In ocean's arms, there they would sleep
Captain Abbott then looked away
It seemed as if Johnnie would stay
Another legend lost at sea
When passion caved to mermaid's plea...
