My Shoe Story

Everyone has a shoe story...
Mine began when I was 3 years old....
My red PF-Flyers made me feel like there was no place I couldn't go. I remember (seriously!)swinging on my swingset in the yard while wearing my PF-Flyers, and there was nothing that soared me higher than that! I wondered at a very young age if my new friend had seen my new shoes and consequently knew I was the best any friend could be! The little red canvas sneakers with the elastic side gores opened up the world of shoes to me and I never stopped gathering shoes since!

In grade school, we made special trips to Gabriel Shoe store 60 miles away where you could get 2 pr for $5! It was like discovering gold! The ironic thing is, most of my childhood-I ran barefoot!! I thought shoes were an infringement on my freedom. I have come a long way, baby!
Some of the shoes in my storage vault go as far back as high school because the platform wedge was always destined to return! My prom shoes from the 70's are still wearable today! I treat shoes as if they are "collectibles" They have a significant spot in my home and there is never enough "shoe space" in any closet.

I currently have vowed not to count my collection. When I reached 100 pairs-I gave boxes full to GoodWill to share my wealth of shoe savvy! I have this weird compulsion to buy shoes every time I go shopping. Sometimes I ask the sales clerk to keep the box because it is easier to sneak the shoes into the house without a box, but I do have many pairs safely stored in their original box, never worn! It is actually my only vice~ I don't gamble, drink, smoke or over-eat. I don't do any compulsive spending either, except for shoes! It has become insanity that I enjoy.

When I bought 3 pairs of shoes when shopping with my sister, she had no idea how obscessed I was with shoes. I consider shoes an investment in my happiness! I also judge people by the shoes they wear. You can tell a lot about a person by the shoes that decorate their feet. Seriously-your feet have to be the most important feature for any given look. I know it sounds grossly superficial to judge people by their shoes, but it has nothing to do with social status. Good-looking shoes are right up there next to cleaniliness! I revealed my "shoe pages" to my daughter because I thought it was good that she know where her mom's priorities lie! I told her "my house may be messy"-but my shoes pages are in order!" I have spent a unreasonable amount of time organizing shoes onto a web page viewing, but the 4 pages include a very small portion of the total collection.
So what is your shoe story? You know you have one...
