I received a call one evening from my best friends' wife.
She explained that her reason for calling,
was that since their move from Texas to South Carolina,
and her husbands' birthday just one day away,
she was becoming concerned about his depressive state of mind.

The adjustment was hard enough leaving old friends,
and family behind, but the thought of getting old was
becoming very depressing to him. She asked for my help, and would I call him, to wish him happy birthday.

I called him on his birthday, offering him best of wishes, and wrote this Poem for him.

It was his Fifty Sixth Birthday

GROWING OLD

As the years take their toll
just like punches learn to roll.

Look forward with happiness to those years,
recall fond memories and laugh at those unfounded fears.

While others grow old and lose their way
you can remember and truthfully say,

how blessed am I to have a
wonderful wife and family at my side.

How blessed am I to have fond memories
of friends I remember with pride.

How lucky am I to have a future
with those whom I hold so very dear.

How happy am I to look forward
from year to year
