165 snaps

Here are the last of my "Upstairs, Downstairs" production stills with captions. These are from the last season of the series.

James Bellamy didn't fare very well after the war years. He tried running for Parliment but that didn't pan out. Here he is with Georgina with whom he has fallen in love. On holiday in Scotland, James at last declares his love, but Georgina turns him down. A devastated James packs his bags and heads for America, to his sister Elizabeth. He will return to London, very wealthy and in high spirits, however...

James returns to Eaton Place a new man. He is wealthy – thanks to some very profitable stock investments. He even persuades Rose to invest her money (left to her by her late fiance). Alas, comes the Crash of '29, and James is wiped out. Here he tells Rose what happened, that her nestegg is gone, too.

Once it's learned Rose has lost all her money, Richard lays into James. The two have a terrible argument, and all the pent-up frustrations and disappointments come out. As a result, a despairing James packs his bags and leaves for parts unknown. Come evening, Richard and Virginia receive news that James had committed suicide.

End of an era. James' debts are so great that 165 Eaton Place must be sold. Georgina marries the Marquis of Stockbridge, and Edward and Daisy relocate to work as Lord and Lady Stockbridge's butler and housemaid. Mr Hudson and Mrs Bridges marry, taking Ruby with them. Richard and Virginia relocate to a house in the country, and Rose will go with them.
Here Rose closes an empty house, reliving memories. She takes one last look before turning attentions to a new chapter in her life.
