Twas metric, and the chains and pounds
Were decimetred by the tonne.
Gigajoulish were the sounds,
For Metrication had begun.

"Beware the Metricwork, my son,
Although the system seems much neater,
Beware the kilogram, and shun
The hectare and the centimetre!"

He took his Imperial sword in hand,
Long time his mega-foe he sought,
Then rested he 'neath a millibar tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in Kelvinish thought he stood,
The Metricwork, with eyes a-flame,
Came Newtoning through the Pascal wood,
Kilowatting as it came.

One-two, one-two, th' Imperial sword
Went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head,
Went gigajouling back.

"And thou hast mastered Metricwork?
Come to my arms, O metred boy!
O Celsius day, Calloo, Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

Twas metric, and the chains and pounds
Were decimetred by the tonne.
Gigajoulish were the sounds,
For Metrication had begun.
