My brother and I were trying to adjust to our 5th school in less than a year and to a place that had water fountains for "colored". The water was the same color as out of the other fountain. I saw Caro for the first tme at the grocery store where I worked. For some reason she made me nervous. Dad as trying to get used to the idea of never ever living in the golden west again.Mom was awitter with her new home that dad was building building and her sisters and brother being near.

I was ten in 1952.
Sammy, our lives were so different as children.
I am a city slick chick.
I had an alley for a yard.
I always wanted to be a country gal.

Sammy 7/6 647a
Yes (Eileen), we grew up different, I always wanted to live in town (I thought). We had to pull our water from the well manually. And we worked from an early age. My first cotton sack was a pillow case with straps sewed on it. I might have been 5 years old. We didn't have electricity until 1951. Our first purchase then was an old refrigerator. It was hard but we also had lots of clean fresh air, we always had the freshest fruits in season that we would not have had if we had to buy them in a grocery store. I guess it all equals out somewhere down the line. Now I live way out in the country. (by choice).
