Barbara N I should Not tell this BUT, I was 15 yrs old. I had no idea how to drive. My Dad, had bought a brand new Pontiac. He had to park it, away from the house because we lived in a housing project. I took the car keys, off the dresser, while he was sleeping. I finally got it in reverse and took a drive. It was the most stupid thing, I have ever done. I went to pick up my girlfriend and we got stuck on a rail road track and a train was coming and blowing its horn. My girlfriend was screaming. I just got off the track in time. When I got back home, my parents and a neighbor were standing in the parking lot. NOW, this is the best part. My Dad said " If you want to drive honey, you have to get a driver's license" My Dad was "The best Dad." I got my license, as soon, as I turned 16. Nothing my own kids, have ever done, was as bad, as what I did. Martha Chambers 2001 I was 52 years old. My husband had tried to teach me. I was so scared, I didn't think I even wanted to learn how to drive. I had accepted a new job with The George Nickey Real Estate Co. to open up a brand new property, in Raleigh, a suberb of Memphis. It was all country and the 1st apt. complex to go up in this area. There were only a little bit of it even started and I was working out of a constuction shack. The company had put my husband and me in a motel. The property I had been managing was full and I had too move so the new manager there could move in. The young man that hired me was in his 20's. One day he said "You don't drive do you?" He told me not to worry about it that that was not one of the things I was supposed to do when he hired me. When he left, I thought if you want me to drive I will. I got in the yellow pages and called Chevrolet Driving School. They came out and I took 6 lessons and they took me to get my licence. It was so funny. While I was taking the lessons I would drive in the complex and the construction men would grab on to the fence posts and act like I was going to hit them. I am so glad I finally learned to drive. Very shortly after that my husband had a really bad stroke on the way home from work. Of course for us to keep insurance they had to take his licence. He was sick almost 8 yrs, so it was wonderful that I could take him to doctors. It is such a blessing to me and I still love to drive today. Sorry this is so long |
