I guess I got my first pet when I was old enough to walk. I had a cat that followed me around like a mother hen.

We had pets when I was growing up. Mostly, we had cats. One of my fave cat's was named Fluffy. She was a pretty grar and real fluffy. Our dog killed her tho.
Another pet I had was a cat named butterball. She was yellow and real FAT.
I shared a dog with my brother's. It was a german shepherd. His name was Shep. I loved that dog, he was so friendly. When Wes was in Korea, the kids & I had three dogs, part collie and part german shepherd. One got run over by a semi(the dog liked chasing after all traffic). When I fell on the ice and got knocked out, our dog; Candy helped me get back home. I had amnesia for two weeks and had a concussion and strained neck. It was a horrible time for the kids and me. The Drs. said I'd never regain all my memory. I wonder if that is true.

PS Our cat we have now is pretty and fat. Her name is Mal Mal. Short for Mallery.

Can't remember exactly how old I was when mom and dad got us a puppy. A few days later he died and they didn't want us to know haha So they got another, tried to fool us. I knew but never said anything to my brothers. The puppy's name was Peanuts, part terrier and beagle. He was an awesome pet and lived so many years. After my dad died my younger brother took him until he passed. Gosh he must have been 18 or 19yrs old.
I also went through a stage when I had hamsters haha And we had a parakeet for several years. One Saturday when mom was cleaning the cage dad opend the door and Curly flew the coop haha Oh what memories this thread has.

Believe it or not, we never had a pet at our house while I was growing up.

I lived on a farm and we always had dogs, Collies. They helped bring in the cows from the pasture. They were beautiful dogs. Lived outdoors. We always loved getting new puppy. Some met an early demise. One got run over by a car. And we had small Toy Manchesters, Toy Terriers or Chihuahuas as house dogs. "Tiny" died in the fire when our house burned down. It is sooo hard to lose a pet.

We didn't have pets until after we had our own children, Mom was too particular in the house and Daddy with the yard so, no pets...We have had two different dogs since we have been married, but do not have any now as it is too hard when you travel...I always hated to leave them at the Kennel. Never had pets in the house though, but they always had good houses and were protected from the weather.

I only had one pet. She was a little terrie named pooch. I really don't remember when we got her. I know she was with us wenwe went to Oregon in 1946. We lost her when we moved to OKlahoma in 1952. Great jumping cats. I remember having her forever but the math shows just 5 years. She was my true friend during the lost lonely years in Washington. Since then I have owned a buttload of cats and dogs but had no pets. Ole Rascal here in the spinning chair is, I'm afraid, becoming a pet and companion.

I don't remember ever not having a pet.. My first was a dog that adopted our house and me... We named him Hobo.. One day he dragged me out of the street and the path of an oncoming truck... I was about 3 and my mother was sooo happy with that dog she gave him a steak for supper..

So I guess I have always had a dog.. Have also had cats, birds, fish, rabbits, hamsters, a goat (named Lassie) and a skunk.. But no matter what other animals I have had, I've always had at least one dog...
Always will too..

We didn't have many pets when I was growing up. We lived in an apartment building (on the third floor) so pets weren't much of an option. I did have one cat that I adored. His name was Wimpy and he was my best friend. One day he got into some poison and my sister rushed him to the vet. The vet wanted to put him down but my sister wouldn't have it. So she brought him home and my mother fed that cat Milk of Magnesia with an eyedropper until he recovered. He lived many years after that

I have been scanning some old pictures the last few weeks.. Here is a pic of me and my Hobo dog.. As you can see, I was pretty small and I guess it's a good thing he dragged me out of the street.. LOL!!

I had my first dog when I was about 12. My Aunt gave it to us. It was a white terrier, deaf as a post. But it traveled to St Louis with us in an old, old Buick. My father put dry ice in the car to keep it cool when we drove through the desert, He got old and then ran away. He probably got lost and was killed or adopted.

My son has, and has had, horses, 4 big dogs, a pot belly pig (UGLY), chickens, ducks, rabbits, , and goats. He lives in the hills in Horse Country. The goats are loaned out to neighbors to eat the weeds. In fire country that is a good thing.
