Did you or your children go to scout camp? Got any cute camp stories? Any fond memories of camp? I'll be back to tell a funny story about Dave's experience at Boy Scout Camp later today when I have more time.

Scout campout, they gave him green oatmeal, last oatmeal he ever ate. We were heavily involved with all of them. Spending nights at the local Girl Scout House with a lot of giggling girls, is not my fondest memory. I do remember having a bunch of Girl Scouts in the car coming home from a skating rink. I was stopped at a signal, and the girls started flirting with the men sitting in front of the place they worked, A train came along, girls got to the floor, and I was sitting there wishing I was on the floor. My husband took care of all Boy Scout stuff, except the blue and gold potlucks.

Well I was never in the scouts but have lots of stories and fond memories of Church Camp I went as many times as I could during the summer. Girls are in a mission study group called Girls Aux. & boys are in Royal Ambassadors. So as a kid I went to GA camp then later in the summer they had GA & RA camp together. (I really liked that one) and near the end of the summer they had Youth Camp that I went to when I got old enough. Lonnie and I even took the kids with us to family camp a few times. My kids and grandkids have gone every year too. I'll have to think of some stories and see if I can feel like typing them out later today.

Carol 7/7 900p are we buying this story?
Okay, Dave swears this story is true. It sounds a little fishy to me. Whatta you think?
Dave and his Boy Scout troop were out on a long hike. Dave became really sick. He turned back toward the campsite. It had started to get dark when he spotted a campfire in the distance. By this time, he was feeling really awful and tired from the long walk. He stumbled into the camp and curled up by the campfire to sleep instead of trying to find his tent. The next thing he knew an old, ugly, woman was kicking him in the side and ordering him to get up and leave the camp immediately. It seems that he had stumbled into the Girl Scout camp instead of the Boy Scout camp. Turns out the Boy Scout camp was just a short distance away.

We always tried to canoe across the lake to get close enough to the girl scout camp to see the girls. But their leaders always saw us and made us turn back. I wondered how they knew we would try?
We also dripped warm water on the hands of the sleeping tender foots. About half of them would wet the bed. One woke up and proceeded to beat hell out of the whole bunch of us.
At El Rancho Cima the most squeamish, girlish guy in the whole troop was the first one to eat a grub during our survival hike.
That was the same guy. He went on to become a Navy Seal and served two tours in Vietnam. Last I heard he was a general and involved with NATO at headquarters.

I DIDN'T GO TO SCOUT CAMP ALTHOUGH MY BROTHER DID ONCE.I DID BELONG TO GIRL SCOUTS THOUGH AND ENJOYED IT.AS AN ADULT I WENT 3 TIMES TO CHURCH CAMP AS THE VOLUNTEER NURSE.I LOVED IT AND THE WORSE THING I TREATED WAS A HEADACHE.8^

Peggie was in Girl Scouts and went to camp once and once was enough for both of us; I went as a volunteer helper. One night it got down to 37º (in August). Everyone except Peggie and I froze to death. There was a certain way we folded blankets so there were as many blankets on the bottom as well as the top. And you crawled in like a sleeping bag. Also, wore our clothes and hat. I remember one little girl had wet her bed and she never told us until the next night when she was ready for bed. I can't remember now how we solved that problem.

I have a few questions before I pass judgement...Did he really stumble into the girls scout camp by accident? Or did he go there on purpose? And if he did go there on purpose did he fall asleep by accident? Haha

I buy it as not so many years ago it was a lot safer to go camping than it is now...SADLY to say...

I have a funny to tell you all too. My Hubby was going away to camp duing the depresso era, he was about 7 yrs old, and never been away from home overnite..so his Mom who was a Martha Stewart type housekeeper, volunteered to help in the kitchen . her job was to butter the toast for the breakfast among others.. they brought the toast and a contaner of melted butter, ( it was before the conveniences of modern techs, ( no portable refrigs etc...) They also supplied her with a NEW TOOTHBRUSH , INSTEAD OF A KNIFE.. Altho' it was indeed safe and sanitary, the thought of using it on toast, really bothered her. She did it .. but . she pulled him outta camp that day...haha he was her youngest and she was still struggling with the TOOTHBRUSH incident...

turned out to be a family joke and we had many a laugh at the reunions about family "goofs", including this one...

His story is that he stumbled into the Girl Scout camp by accident... and he's sticking to that story. Hahaha.

Carol 7/8 420p
He's also sticking to the story that his glasses fell onto the wood chopping block just as his axe was hitting the block by accident.

This story was funny! It could be true, well, it could be!!:-)
I had to LOL at your hb's Mom pulling him out of camp because of the toothbrush! That was really funny.

I was in G.A.'s also and went to camp every summer. When I was 16yrs I became I summer missionary and got to go around Calif and do camps and VBS. Did that 2 summers before I went to college. Came back one summer when I was 20 they asked me to help out at one of the camps and that is where I met my husband(x-now). I have been back up to the one camp several times for Woman's retreat. It is beautiful there,

Knowing that story came from Dave.....I believe it....LOL

Eileen 7/9 703a
How embarrassing for a young boy. I believe Dave. I think they usually do put the two camps close by!

Awww the memories of GA's and missions. My Church was more like my family and they always saw to it that I got to go to several camps a year. And GA's was the BEST! We really learned things back then. I still have the Bible verses memorized from all the different steps we took. I only got to Princess before I had to move and they didn't have an active GA's at my next church home. I loved the coronations we had when I was in GA's. That's where I got my first formal. And camp, we didn't get to go to GA camp if we didn't pass our steps. Going to camp meant something then. 8^) Course I went to youth camp too. And we did some really "bad" stuff there, like putting shave cream in the counselors bed. And then there was the times the guys got in our cabins and stole some bras and hung them up the flagpole. They got in lots of trouble and sent home, doesn't seem so bad by today’s standards. Oh and I worked in missions doing VBS too. We went mostly to Mexico. My grand daughter does it too. She was in Oregon last month and Washington State this month doing VBS. She is in college and should be earning money for that. But she has been doing this since high school and just couldn't give it up. She is gonna be a missionary and I am very proud of her. I used to want to be one. But the foreign mission board said I couldn't go overseas because of allergies. (((Hugs)))

I can see where that little peach will be a light to much more than your world. Just look at the number of people on Grannies who are seeing that smile. It is infectious and we will pass it on. talking about Mary Lynn’s pic of a great grandson

Darlene 7/10 735a
Oh such a beautiful baby! What a smile!

Glo 7/10 837a
There sure are a lot of things happening by accident in this story! LOL

Mary Lynn 7/9 925p
Well I guess it sounds a little likely.. LOL!! If that's the best you can do, I better keep my stories to myself.. LOL!!

BarbaraN 7/10 1052a
Yes. Of course, I haven't met Dave yet.
