stand there
This is a story that happened when I was working the midnight shift on an orthopedic floor as an aide. Now I was a greenhorn to say the least. I learned about confusion and disorientation that occurs with some patients. The light came on from a semi-pvt room that was occupied by one female patient. This lady was in her 70's. I went to her room to see what she needed. She said "Turn the lights on." I did as told. She then said "There is a man lying on his stomach with his head propped up by his elbows under that extra bed over there." I told her that "There was no one there".
" Oh yes there is. Can't you see."
I told her that maybe she was "just seeing things" She then said " Oh never mind he is gone now"
A few minutes went by and her light came on again. I had left the room light on for her so perhaps if she was seeing things at least there would be a light. She said "Come here young lady" I went to her bedside. I said "What do you need Mrs Doe?" "Come here. Look over there at that foot stool. Can't you see the man with the cellophane cape on?" Of course I looked at the stool just to please her. I told her "that there was no one there" She said "He is there I tell you" I asked her "What do you want me to do?"
She said "He is there see? Go stand by him. He wants me." I said "What does he want?"
She said with the straightest face, "He wants to rape me and I want you to go over there and stand by him". I said "Oh you want me to get raped then?" "Yes, she said, Then tell me how you liked it and maybe I will go and stand by him"
