Husband

I met all types of people in my years of nursing. Some that will stay etched in my mind forever, some who I would love to forget and those that bring a smile or a tear to my eyes.

Some family members are just as remarkable too. One family member in particular. A husband sat at his wife's bedside day in and day out. He held her hand or wiped her brow. Help with her daily needs as well as any of the nurses. His wife was dying from cancer. He would talk to her even though she was in a coma.

He often talked with me and we really became good friends. He told me of the canning his wife did every year and all of the frozen food she put up. She was the number one wife, mother, cook, and best friend in the world to all who knew her. One day he left her bedside and wanted me to check on her while he was gone.

When he came back, he handed me a sack. Inside was some jars of homemade peas, kraut, and some fruits and veggies his wife put up. He just said "I wanted to share a little bit of her with you." I took the gift of love and hugged the man. He brought tears to my eyes. He had is own way of sharing his love for his wife and her love of him and the things she loved.

I may not remember his or her name but I remember the love and sharing of this devoted husband.
