Around 8:00 am we recieved a call from surgery to get a bed ready for a motorcycle accident. This was not uncommon to get these accidents. Mostly teens came in from motorcycle accidents. The patient, shall we call him Tim, was a 16 year old good looking blond headed boy..

Oh what a shape he was in, broken ribs, broken arm . He came throught the door with a tube running out of every opening on the human body. There were numerous IV"s going. He was still asleep from surgery. It was my turn to take the new admission. From the bedside and looking at him, I thought, Oh God where do I begin. Please help me with this patient. I pulled back the covers, shocked at what I saw. He had a huge laceration from his naval all down to the tail bone of hid buttocks. It was open and draining. It ran down and up to the tail bone, a vertical laceration. Orders to keep it irrigated to flush out the dirt and debris from the road. This was to prevent infection. His manhood was still attached but was lying to the right of where it was supposed to be. He would be sent back to surgery when all wound was thoroughly cleaned out. Tim was a challenge to care for. You just wonder where you start. He was my only patient that day. Believe me it was a full and non-stop duty. The doc came in as the Tim was waking up. The doc explained about what surgery that had been done.

Tim asked him why was butt hurt so bad. The doc said Son you ripped your A--s off when you went over handle bar of your cycle. He told him that he would be undergoing more surger tomorrow and he would fix him "good as new" Tim was such a good patient. He stayed in the unit for about a week before being transfered to the surgery floor. The surgeon did an excellent job with the surgery. Every thing was sewn back together and he would lead a normal sex life.

I have often wondered about what he is doing now. We never heard from him after discharge. I hope he is still the sweet person I took care of. He took orders like a trooper and that is why he got to go home sooner that expected. I hope he has a happy and fulfilled life. Tim's and the doc' Guardian Angels looked after both of them and with the help of the Good Lord, another life was saved that day.
