Haha. that is a good one Kath. My first job was waitressing. Went to
work in a restaurant on the boardwalk in Atlantic City when I was 14. It
was a big place right across from Hamid's Million Dollar Pier so we were
busy. One time during my learning period Iwas overwhelmed to the point I
could not get caught up. We had to clear our own tables back then. No
help due to the war. Anyway I went up to this one table where people
were sitting and I asked them if they would care for anything else. They
all looked at me like I was nuts, The man smiled at me and said yes,
they would like a menu, and could I clear the table. I wanted the floor
to open up, I was so embarrassed, especially being a kid and
inexperience. The people turned out to be really nice and they made it
sort of easy on me. That was funny after it was all over. They left me a
whole 5.00. which was big money back then. We worked from 9-9pm 6 days a
week, for $2.00 a day. Cost .64 cents, round trip for the trolley car
from Somers Point about 10 miles. I would still rather take care of the
sick then wait on the healthy. haha.
