Chapter 2

Leigh and Misty must have slept like logs our first night. I didn't see Leigh until 9 am their time. I was up about 7:30 am their time (5:30 am Houston). Leigh and I decided to take the tour of Grenada just to have something to do. Leigh discovered breakfast but I didn't until the next day. So we left the Clipper in 3 mini vans that ended up loaded to the gills. Misty, thanks to a physical adventure at a concert Friday night, couldn't drag herself out of the bunk. She had bruises from head to toe.

Those mini vans are every where and are driven like wild goats on speed. And being a British island the driver is on the right and they drive, like drunken spiders, on the right side of the road. Ha! The sidewalk in front of my house is wider than most of the roads we were on.

Grenada is mountainous and very crowded. The tour went up to a house where a lovely young woman took us on a walking tour of the plant and spices grown on the island. Nutmeg is a major cash crop. I didnot know that 2 spices are from nutmeg. The meg and mace. She also showed us a tented area where they grow a certain plant for decoration. Picturesof the tour show the plant. Guess its name. No peeking at the picture caption.

After the walking tour we wound back down to near sea level then back up a mountain where there was a neat small water fall. The water was very cold. Leigh went in easily but almost fell on her butt when she started out.

There is one picture which reminds me of the mermaid statue in Stockholm. One of the guys was a macho dude. So he just had to dive off a rock into the pool. He was smart enough to jump the first time. His girl friend was amused during the cruise by his inability to refuse a challenge. They served snacks and rum drinks at the fall. The rum drink was the first of many. Rum and Coke is almost a noble drink. Over ice is too good to last.

After a hair raising ride back to the ship I found Misty awake and catching some rays. She was stiff and sore for 2 days.

Later that day, actually that afternoon, we hoisted anchor and headed out to Bequia. Click here to hear the song that Captain Neil played whenever we shoved off.

More photos for this part of the cruise is at WJ 2 Tour Grenada. For the remainder of the photos of the Grenada tour click on WJ 2b Grenada Tour More about the WindJammer Tours. The whole outfit, according to some of the people on the ship who had been on other windjammer tours, is low key and relaxing. So any ship or any tour would be wonderful.

Tomorrow our first sack and swizzle and dinner and first night under sail.

Yes I would do it again anytime.
