Chapter 4

At story time we were told about the things to do on Bequia during the day and at night. We caught the first launch to the island and headed out to the goat path. But first the girls had to find a phone to call their husbands. Newly weds! Spend about an hour wandering around trying to find the phone company to buy phone card we found it. Also found the post office. Strangely the post office did not sell stamps. The revenue office in another part of the building sold stamps. Every island has their own stamps and one islands stamps are no good on another island. Sure sounds like the Brits bureaucrats in action. Misty got to flirting with a old guy, must have been 70, and told him he had beautiful eyes. He sold her cards and cokes for about half price. Onward to goat path but first Misty wanted her hair braided. Hour. Off to the goat path. First lunch/breakfast at "Le Bistro". Really pretty good. Of course Ellie May (Misty) found a dog to befriend. Now to the goat path, finally.

After a full day walking around Bequia we decided to go to Maxs for Lobster Pizza and then to the Jump-up at Columbo's. We caught the launch back to the island and, of course, the girls had to phone home. Finally found public phones and I discovered that the trim around the roof was decorated in a whaling motif. Walked down to Maxs and were seated at a table along with Captain Neil and Purser Rusty. Neil highly recommended the lobster pizza so we ordered enough to kill us all. Of course rum and coke for beverage. Leigh and Misty drank something non-alcoholic. Cap and I make up for them. By the time the pizza was all eaten I was abnormally happy. I even picked up the check!

Remember the bill is in CE with an exchange rate between 2.5 and 2.7.

Rusty is British so I had to kid her about the freaking Brits. Cap chimed in. The Scots and Brits have a long bitter/sweet relationship. I told story of how the first Robertson of our line came to America. Sold into indentured servitude. Don't know whether to be glad or not. Then we got into a religious discussion where reasoned opinions and facts were expressed strongly. Discussion was precipitated by events of September 11 and "where was God question". Wasn't really an argument as much as confrontation between believers and the disillusioned. The lobster pizza was delicious and absolutely bodacious. I have not found a lobster pizza source in Houston.

We walked to Colombos where a bunch of young island males were gathered. And every female from the Yankee Clipper dressed in their most provocative. Music was sooooo loud you could not even hear it. There were only 3 or 4 40 watt light bulbs. Only a few of the women were dancing with the island guys. The others were closely guarded by their "alpha" males. Leigh and Misty had a beer or so. I had lots of rum and coke. Jumping cats that is good drinks. I took a bunch of pictures but because it was so dark the autofocus did not work well. So many of the pictures were blurred beyond use. The picture of the three of us was taken by the kid who sold me the T-shirt on the beach earlier that day.

Naturally during the night I caught a stomach bug so I was nauseous all the next day. Could not have been alcohol poisoning or sea sickness. Not stomach flu!! Impossible!!
