Cats have a duty to sleep, but they must sleep long hours and at certain times. When you want to pet your cat is one time they must sleep so soundly that they cannot hear you begging them to let you pet them.

It is a cat's job to sleep all day when you are up and about. They must do this to obtain adequate amounts of rest so they can play all night while you are sleeping.

Cats know when it is time for you to get up in the morning. It is usually about a half hour before your alarm is set to go off. By that time of morning, they are tired from keeping you up all night and they want to sleep. They cannot sleep while you sleep! That would be dereliction of cat duty. They have to get you out of bed at this point.

The location of a catnap is very important. If you leave clothes lying around your house, it is the cat's job to sleep on them and get as much cat hair as it can on them. It is required of a cat to sleep on your favorite piece of furniture at the exact time you would want to sit on it.

If you allow your cat to sleep on your bed, it must get as much hair on your pillow as it possibly can. This is so that you will breathe cat hair when you are sleeping on your own bed. Buying a cat its own bed doesn't always solve the problem. The amount of use a cat will get out of a catbed is inversely proportional to the amount of money spent on it.
