After reading my Instructions For Building A MSNTV Scrapbook many people have asked me how to do the reverse: obtain the URL for an image in the MSNTV Scrapbook. This page will explain that process.
First, you have to put the image you wish to obtain the URL for on a web page in MSNTV Pagebuilder. The first step would be to go to the Page Builder Index.
To get to Page Builder Index, hit the white "home" button on your keyboard. From there, click onto "Pagebuilder". That will take you to the Page Builder Index. If this is your first time there, there will be an optional tutorial for you to read. When you finish reading it, or click onto the "Begin Using Pagebuilder Now" option, another screen will come up explaining the MSNTV Terms of Service. You will be given the option to agree with or not to agree with those terms. Once you have agreed, you will be taken to the Page Builder Index.
Each time (after agreeing to the terms of service), you click onto "Page builder" you will be taken directly to the Page Builder Index.
The next step is to make the web page with the graphics you want the URL for. From the Page Builder Index, click onto "Create" in the left-side bar on the page. That will take you to a screen asking you to "Select A Page Style". Any style wil do, but I have always found it better for this purpose to select a page style that loads fast. Those styles are: Blue, Grey, Red and Green.
Now, Page builder will give you the option of choosing a title for the page. I always give mine a one word title: something like "scrapbook" or "linkers"; just anything to let me know what it is for. You can give it a title by clicking onto the text: "Choose this to add a title to your document." Type in the title you want for the page. If you want the title to show up on your page, leave the red checkmark below the title line as it is. If you don't want it to show up on your page, click onto the red checkmark to remove it. Next, click onto "Done".
When you are on the next screen, you will find buttons at the top and bottom of the test bed (this is the box that contains the page that you are working on) that give you two options: "Change Your Page Style" and "Add An Item". Select "Add An Item" and click onto it. It will take you to a screen with six options. Click onto "Picture". When the next screen comes up, you will have the option of choosing from either your WebTV Scrapbook or the WebTV Picture Gallery. Select the Scrapbook option. It will take you to your Scrapbook. Click onto the image you want to obtain a URL for.
The next screen will be headed "Change Your Picture and Caption". There will be a box in which your image will appear above the "title" and "caption" test beds. Filling in either item is optional. It makes no difference to what the URL will be. When the image has completely filled in the box and you have completed any entries in the test beds, click onto the "Done" button. It will take you back to the Page builder test bed. Repeat this process for whatever images you need a URL for.
When you have added all of the images you wish, and you are back at the Page builder screen it is time to publish. On the left hand of the Page builder screen, there are five options. "Index" will take you back to the Page Builder Index. "Edit title" will allow you to change the title or change whether or not it appears on your page. "Preview" allows you to see what your page will look like when it is published. "Help" will take you to a page that offers help.
When you are ready, click onto "Publish". You will be taken to a screen headed "Title & Description". It will ask you to confirm your title. If you have chosen a title, fill in the "Type your page's title:" test bed with the title. The next test bed on the page is "Type your page's description". This is optional. If you choose, type in a brief description of what your page is about or why you have made it. When you are finished, click onto "Continue".
You should next be in the "Ready to publish" screen. There will be a red checkmark beside the option "Include in publish list". If you leave the checkmark there, this page will be accessible when people search WebTV for pages built by you. This can be done by hitting the "go to" key and typing in after the "http://": community.webtv.net/WebTV User Name/. A list of that user's listed pages will be available. If you do not want this page accessible, or any other page you might publish, you must click onto that red checkmark to remove it on the "Ready to publish" screen. When you have finished, you can either click onto the "Don't Publish" or the "Publish" button. If you feel you have more to do at this point, choose "Don't Publish". This will take you back to the Page builder test bed page to do more work.
If you have selected "Publish", you will be taken to the "Congratulations" screen. The URL of the published page will be there as a clickable link. There will also be three options that you can choose by clicking onto the text. "Send mail announcing your page" will take you to the "Write A Message" screen. All you need to do there is fill in the addresses of the people you want to see your new page and write a message. Since this is a page constructed for the purpose of obtaining URL's of images, this is probably not an option you want. The second option, "Add its address to your mail signature", is probably not one you would want for this particular page. What this does is add this page to your e-mail signature and it will be automatically sent with every e-mail you send. The third option, "change the title or description" is self-explanatory and probably not something you would use for this particular page, but what it does is allow you to change the title of this page. That will not change the URL once it has been published. It changes only what title appears on the page or in the status bar.
Congratulations. You have now published a page! Now, you need to extract the URL's for the images on the page so you can link to them on a web page in WebTV Page builder; send them in your e-mail or use them in your e-mail signature; or transload them to another server. On the next page, I will tell you how to do that.
