Moving on......

Harry had dreams of attending the US Military Academy at West Point, but his poor eyesight prevented it. Then his father's poor business ventures spoiled his chances of going to college.

So Harry set out for Kansas City to make his own fortune; then he would be able to help his parents.

Kansas City was a big rough cowtown that had everything, including gambling

and prostitution.

But Harry had no time for those things.

He had to work.

He worked in the mailroom for a local newspaper,

He was a time keeper for a railroad construction company,

and finally a clerk in a bank.

He attended concerts,

saw the Four Cohans

and Sarah Bernhart.

He even saw President Theodore Roosevelt.

Harry thought he looked rather short.

He joined the National Guard, and made friends with the other young men.

After four years at the bank, Harry was making a good salary.

He was 21 years old, and making a life for himself when his father once again thwarted his plans....
