This one*s for Lindley "Spike" Jones,
madcap music maker of the 1940*s whose
band of musicians, "The City Slickers,"
fractured such classics as "The Nutcracker
Suite" and "Hungarian Rhapsody" with
screams, gunshots, bangs and sirens.
Collectors of old recordings or anyone
who was around at the time will surely
remember his scathing denunciation of the
Nazi madman, complete with appropriate
sound effects in "Der Fuhrer*s Face," the
harmonic clangings of his "Laura," the
plaintive voice searching for "Chloe,"
and the gun shots, shouts and police
whistles of "Cocktails for Two."
