From the grassy green at Lexington,
the winter camp at Valley Forge,
to the ramparts of Fort McHenry,
the Mission at San Antonio,
San Juan Hill and Santiago,
Flander's fields and the Argonne;
from islands in the Pacific to the
Asia mainland, the beaches at
Normandy and deserts of North
Africa, to the Chosen Reservoir,
Pork Chop Hill and Camrahn Bay,
Saigon and the sun scorched sands
of the Middle East and to all the
long forgotten, God forsaken
places without names, before
and since and in between,
where freedom was won and
nurtured and defended.
Now to face a new challenge
forced upon us by a faceless
enemy whose cowardly attacks
upon innocents has again called
America to arms in a test of
courage and resolve which shall
not find us wanting. To all of the men and women
who made and continue to make
those sacrifices that we might enjoy
that freedom, we give thanks and
recognition on this, their day.
