collection and although they are not among my
favorites, I have included them in the gallery to
show the sharpness of detail and brilliance
of color even in such early prints.
All three are by the artist, Toyokuni (1769-1825)
and are
examples of the "ukiyo-e" school. The
first print is of a lady
tugging at the sleeve of her
young man, asking
him to listen to a poem she
has written
and the next two prints depict
popular kabuki actors of the day.
